Controlled Substance Medications

Starting August 27, 2013, all medical providers with a license to prescribe controlled substances in New York State are required to review an online patient registry to determine if prescriptions have been obtained from sources unknown to the prescriber PRIOR to prescribing or renewing those controlled substances. This law is called I-STOP/PMP (Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing/ Prescription Monitoring System). Click here if you would like to learn more about I-STOP. The medications affected by this new law include the following:

Narcotics such as: Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Morphine, Hydromorphone, Methadone

Benzodiazepines such as: Ativan (lorazepam), Valium (diazepam)

Anabolic Steroids (Testosterone)

Certain Anti-convulsants (phenobartibal)

Muscle Relaxants (carisoprodol/SOMA)

Insomnia Medications such as: Ambien (zolpidem), Sonata (zaleplon), Lunesta (eszopiclone), and others

This new regulation will necessitate a longer lead time for prescription refills. Please allow at least 48 hours to allow us to refill these and all other types of medications.
